February 15th 2013:
Positions for typesetters and cleaners are still open. Experience not required but hopefully you’ll stick around for quite some time and are willing to learn and improve. It takes a lot of our time to train new editors. So we really do wish that anybody who’s applying is dedicated to set aside time for training.

July 11th 2013:
We’re also looking for extremely good proofreader with keen senses for details and isn’t afraid to make drastic changes but still able to maintain overall nuance and accuracy. Right, and really good command of English.

If interested, please pick 2 pages out of this cleaning exercise, just so we know where your level’s at. Send your final edit when applying for the post. This is the same kit we use for training cleaners too.

Typesetter

Job description: Your job is to replace Japanese text with English text from a script of translations aesthetically. Most sound effects and small/side texts need to be replaced. You may have to do some cloning and redrawing if the area’s too complicated for the cleaner to redraw.

Requirements: No experience needed, but you must have patience and motivation because we have a set standard of quality to follow. If we think you’re not up to par, we’ll be training you. You must have basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop.

If interested, please typeset all the pages in this typesetting exercise, just so we know where your level’s at. Send your final edit when applying for the post. This is the same kit we use for training typesetters too.

Requirements: Experience needed. Please send in a copy of your past work for us to judge before we can hire you. We only take in editors who use Adobe Photoshop.

If you don’t have examples of past works, you can work on the pages in our editor’s kit and send them to us.

Japanese Translators

Job description: You’re required to translate from Japanese to English. Sound effects (sfx) aren’t a must to be translated, but it’ll be awesome if you could do it. Do note that some projects do not come with Furigana.

Requirements: No experience needed, as long as you have good command of Japanese and know English well enough to write properly. We’ll have someone to check for accuracy if you need us to do so. Sorry to say this but we do prefer applicants who have fairly strong grasp of the language. We’ve spent way too much time retranslating scripts.

Projects:
Saiyaku wa Boku wo Suki Sugiru by Kannagi Satoru & Ninomiya Etsumi
works of Nishida Higashi
T.E. Lawrence by Kousaka Tomoko
Likes manga from the 70s until the 90s

Job description: Different from a proofreader, your job is to check for accuracy (or at least make the sentence sound close enough), translate missing text, sound effects and in some cases, do script formatting.

Current Requirements: Looking for someone who’s able to check for English grammar and consistencies for final proofreading within a day or two.

Scanners/Freelance Scanners

Job description: We love our editors and we don’t want to torture them. SO, scanners will have to debind their book in whatever way they’re comfortable with and scan the book. Scanners have to be willing to fork their own money out to buy the manga.

Requirements: Able to scan at 300dpi for grayscale images and 600dpi for coloured images. Images must be saved in uncrush and uncompressed formats. Preferably in PSD. Freelance scanners are welcomed too.
